I’ve received lots of messages about making a timetable for class teachers. My timetable changed a lot last year as I got to know my class better and noticed that some lessons were better at different times of the day.
I think its nice to get Literacy, Numeracy and Gaeilge completed before big lunch as often this is the time when the children are most alert and concentrate the best. A calming lesson is often useful after lunch when the children return from yard for example Religion/SPHE.
Some things to consider when making a timetable;
- Learning Support and Resource Timetables (the children who attend learning support and resource should not be missing the same subjects each day.)
- P.E/Hall timetable – many schools have a set timetable in place for P.E.
- External teachers
It can be helpful to write down SESE instead of History, Geography, Science on your timetable as well as Arts Education for Art, Music, Drama. This way you are not tied to do Art every Tuesday and Drama every Thursday – you can change to best suit your needs and each week.
This is a basic timetable;
8:50 – 9:00 covers roll and prayers
10:00 on a Tuesday is assembly in our school (This will be different for each school/class).
