Interview

Haven’t written in a while as I’ve just moved back to Ireland after living in the U.K. Today was my first interview. This post is to give some sample interview questions. I’ve been interviewed in boys, girls and mixed schools as well as Catholic and multi-denominational schools too.

  • Tell us about yourself
  • What experience do you have?
  • What have you done since graduating?
  • Why do you want to be a teacher?
  • How can you contribute to the ethos of the school?
  • What extra- curricular area would you be willing to set up/develop?
  • How would you deal with a child who continually interrupts during lessons?
  • What would you do if you noticed a change in a child’s behaviour?
  • Teaching can be a stressful job. How would you ensure you look after yourself? and other staff members?
  • Do you have any weaknesses?
  • What are your main strengths?
Scenario based questions
  • You are on a night out with friends at the weekend.  A parent sees you in a compromising position. The following Monday morning as you walk onto the playground, a parent makes a comment about you to other parents. What do you do?
  • Your partner teacher isn’t pulling their weight. You have spoken to them but there is no change. What would you do?
  • A teacher enters the staffroom giving out about the principal and board of management. What do you do?
Hope these help!
