There is a huge shortage of substitute teachers available at the moment so the INTO recommended that final year students should get their teaching council numbers asap. This blogpost is just to share some ideas about what to include in a substitute CV.
You need Garda vetting before you will be allowed to work as a substitute teacher.
Length; A CV should be no more than 2 pages long.
What to include?
- Contact details; name, address, mobile number, email
- Qualification; brief description (if you are not yet qualified – what year you are in and what college you attend.)
- Experience; if relevant (brief description! Schools you have worked in followed by other relevant experience)
- Professional development; any relevant courses
Layout; sample download
A business card is a really good thing to include with your CV. It can easily be pinned up on the noticeboard in the principals room or in the school office and principals don’t have to go searching through CV’s to find someones phone number when a staff member calls in sick. You can buy them online or make your own and print 6 to a page and laminate!
Contacting the school
Drop into the school with your CV and business card. Ask to see the principal, this will not always be possible. The best times vary between schools but I would avoid first thing in the morning or last thing in the evening as this is a very busy time in schools.
