I spent the evening down in Dun Laoghaire celebrating the homecoming of Annalise Murphy – the olympic silver medallist.
Growth mindset is something I used a lot in my classroom last year and is a huge skill for children to learn. It’s important for children and adults to realise that we will experience failure and success and our attitude can have such a massive effect on our achievements. By developing a ‘can do’ attitude and growth mindset – children will try new things, push themselves and exceed expectations.
Annalise commented on the fact that there have been many setbacks in her career as an athlete – coming fourth in the London Olympics 4 years ago being just one of them but with a strong attitude and huge determination she went to Rio this year and has arrived home with a silver medal – what a fantastic achievement and such a brilliant role model for children.
