Trying to teach P.E. effectively with little (or no) equipment and while also trying to maintain social distancing is really tricky. Below are some helpful videos with ideas and things I’ve been using with my class and are working well. I think most of the ideas below can be easily adapted at all class levels.

Games

Races

My class have enjoyed a variety of races. These can be done by pod or you can just space out the children (especially if you are outside)

  • Running

  • Walking

  • Skipping

  • Backwards running/skipping/walking

  • Hop on one foot

  • Jumping

  • Bear crawl (inside will probably work best)

  • Bum crawl (inside will probably work best)

HIIT

This has worked well in senior classes in my school this week. Basically there’s a 30-45 second timer and the children change exercise every time. (Can be 30 seconds work, 15 seconds break etc.)

It gives the kids a really good workout and is enjoyable especially in 5th/6th. Children could make a list of possible exercises beforehand or you can chose from the list below.

  • High knees

  • Bum kicks

  • Knee to elbow

  • Jumping jacks

  • Squats

  • Burpees

  • Lunges

  • Plank

  • Sit ups

  • Push ups

  • Heel touch

  • Glute bridge

  • Bicycle crunch

  • Boxing

  • Flutter kicks

  • Running on the spot

  • Scissor hops

  • Plank jump ins

  • Grapevine

  • Heel toe
